Rusty file cabinet

Through the years I’ve developed a love for purposeful decorating. Sometimes you find fun pieces or bits of decor that just tend to add clutter and more dust in your space. And, with a smaller home (which I am LOVING) I am becoming pickier in this area too. After we took the Christmas tree down we had a big corner of the living room completely empty. I didn’t want to just fill it with random stuff and certainly didn’t have more room for a big piece of furniture. But, I really wanted to find something that I could store all our craft items in and it be in a way that would be organized and easy for our children to get out by themselves.

I had seen lots of cute pictures of people using old file cabinets for storage and decor pieces in their homes. I loved this look…

But, I needed something bigger and not as deep as the majority of file cabinets.

One morning I found this old file cabinet that was thinner with smaller drawers on marketplace. He was asking $35 for it. I messaged the man and asked if I could come look at it before solidifying my want for it. My husband came home and I told him I found a cool file cabinet on marketplace that I wanted to go see. He turned to me and showed me a picture on his phone saying, “It isn’t this one is it?” It totally was the same one! We both were eyeing the same piece! He wanted it to use in his garage and I wanted it in the house. So, we agreed I could have it if I liked it in the spot I needed to fill. And, if I hated it, he’d use it in the garage. The rest is history…..because I LOVE it.
It was the perfect height allowing plenty of space for my pallet clock to hang above it. And, the drawers are perfect for our crafting items. Our one year old can still get her coloring books and crayons out anytime she wants to color. Oh, and did I mention that the guy sold it to us for $20?!

Anyone else have an old filing cabinet you are using for items other than files?
