Laundry Curtain upgrade~ $100 Room Challenge

When I narrowed down which room I was going to tackle for this month’s challenge, I immediately started making a list of things I needed to look for, shop my house for, or make. The thrill of the hunt or creativity with finances is a fun challenge for me when making a room more “beautiful” to me.

Painting the laundry room made a HUGE difference in the look of the room, but I knew I wanted to change the curtains too. When we moved in, I just hung an extra two panels that I had stored in my decoration pile. I loved them, but I was really wanting to get away from the brown colors if at all possible. Black and white buffalo check has become pretty popular lately, and I really did like it. It’s not a print I want everywhere, but a little pop in some curtains sounded fun. When I priced that print of  fabric at several stores, I quickly discovered that it would not be a wise move with the amount of money I desired to spend on this project. So, it sort of got moved to the back burner, and I started thinking of other options even though they weren’t my first choice.

Then….Goodwill happened!😍 Might I just add a little plug in for thrift shopping…? Often people ask me how and where I buy what I decorate our home with and what stores I purchase our clothing from. We probably wouldn’t have many nice things if I didn’t love frugal shopping. I LOVE finding gorgeous things for pennies at yard sales, thrift stores, and Goodwill. Our children pretty much wear all name brand clothing, and it’s not because I’m a name brand, stylish snob. It’s because if I’m digging at yard sales or Goodwill and plan to spend the $1 for each item, I might as well find the best brands available! Anyhow, it’s one of my favorite things for sure when I find good deals for nice stuff. Anyhow, back to my Goodwill find for this project…

I spotted this fabric sitting on the linen shelf and couldn’t believe it was only $4.04. I could tell it was quite a bit, but didn’t realize just how much until I got it home and unwrapped the “half” roll of tape they had wrapped around it.😏
I do own a sewing machine, but sometimes a pair of scissors and a good old glue gun does the job a whole lot faster!

They definitely aren’t the fanciest curtains in the world, but I love how a few dollars made a big difference.  I moved the curtain rod up higher and made sure the curtains were nice and long. I love how it helps make the room a bit bigger too. Also, there was enough material left to make cafe curtains for our kitchen too. I had to wash my white ones and thought I’d try the black and white for a bit of a change. One project in our home typically leads to another.
As you can see in the above picture, I did not paint the wall behind the washer and dryer. The plan is to ship lap that wall and paint it white. The shelves have been stained and are awaiting their debut for our big reveal in a few weeks. I made a small wooden cover for the top of our chest freezer to help spruce up the look even though it is just a laundry room.
A $4.04 Goodwill purchase and about 15 minutes gave this little room a fun update. I can’t wait to show you some of the other projects I have been working on in order to complete this challenge.
