Reading treasures

I have always enjoyed reading, but my weakness is for books that really challenge me spiritually and nothing else. Sounds silly, but I am so NOT into books on cleaning, organizing, cooking, and other stuff. Guess maybe I should be, but I don’t think that will be something that changes anytime soon. I find myself pressed for time as it is, and to pick up a book other than the Bible is a great success in a given day! So, for now, I will stay in my “slap in the face, step on my toes” kind of books. Maybe one day when I am old and gray I will pick up some of the other book treasures many of my friends have and love and read them laughing at all the techniques I did “wrong” or organizational tips that could have helped me. Kuddos to you who find time to read them!

Last summer I read “The Lord is my Shepherd” in less than a week! It was and is an amazing book that truly directed me in a way I needed to go! Talk about full of encouragement, great challenge, and full of truths from God’s Word to help in any given situation! I started reading this one again with my daily devotions and have enjoyed many notes I wrote in it along the way. It gives 12 wonderful promises for every Christian woman through studying Psalms 23! It is a powerful book and one I couldn’t put down! It does help that Elizabeth George is one of my favorite authors and I own MANY of her books!

The one underneath is “The Wilderness Within” by Beneth Peters Jones. It is definitely a bit more deep in the reading, but so rich and a huge eye opener. The author addresses a woman’s testings and disappointments with encouraging reminders of the Lord’s uninterrupted care and presence, to comfort today as He did so long ago! I am almost half way through it, but am gleaning much.

My husband and I are reading “Love & Respect” and are loving it! We need to get it finished soon, so we can move onto the next one together!

I don’t know about you, but my book cupboard is FULL of great books! I plan on reading many this summer and look forward to seeing how the Lord uses each one in my life. How about you? What great books are you reading?

Well, I definitely need all the help I can get in cooking, cleaning, and organizing department especially since I am finally beginning my life at home because I have definitely not "arrived" there yet. So lots of those books along with other spiritual help books and others on my list. Now to just find the time to read them! That is the hardest part…
