Trash to Treasure

My Weekly Treasure Hunt

This weekend was full of fun finds for me. Not a super amount, but super big ones! I have been praying for an armoire for Andrew’s room for quite some time and have kept my eyes peeled on Craigslist, yard sales, and antique stores. I was getting a bit disappointed because everywhere I saw them they were being sold for no less than $100 and some far exceeding that! Uggh! Well, last Friday I was searching Craigslist for the bazillionth time and saw a posting come up almost immediately saying there was an armoire and nightstand available for $35! I thought it may be a scam and quickly checked to see if it was for real. Honestly, I wasn’t 100% worried about it’s appearance as long as their were drawers to one side and a place to hang clothes on the other. But I wanted it to be sturdy and not too big! When I asked the guy to email a picture I kind of laughed at the ugliness of the piece! But, I saw great potential and had planned on painting anything I got white anyhow! So, here is the before picture, and you will have to wait on the after picture later this week! It is done and moved in already, but have to keep something to post later!

Saturday morning I went yard sailin’ with a friend and had a slow start! I was specifically praying to find a small dresser type thing for the girls room which would be the last big thing on the project list in getting ready for baby. Everything else is ready minus painting the crib. Plus, I always like to look for next years wardrobe for all my squirts! We ended up finding 3 church sales which can typically be pretty good. They weren’t the best, but we did find a few things. Most of the yard sales I found 1 or 2 articles of clothing for fall or summer for Chloe mostly. I think the kids did better than Sarah and I, but I kept praying for a big fun find! The last sale we went to it was like the Lord just leaned over and said, “Sweetie, here you go!” I found this cupboard. I know it looks like a pantry, but it is skinny, tall, and wouldn’t take up too much space. I thought immediately about putting all Chloe’s stuff in it and then not having to buy another dresser! I was so excited, but a bit worried she was gonna charge a bunch. Why should I have been worried? Here the Lord was handing it to me and I should just ask. So, when she said $15 I was shocked, but I hid it and used my handy bartering and got it knocked down to $10!!! My sweet Maddie and I have been praying for a cute big girl car seat for her for quite a while too. I know she isn’t big enough yet, but it won’t be long! Well, at this same yard sale I found a super cute pink Graco seat for $5! It was nasty dirty, but when I got home I scrubbed it with my homemade mold killer and washed it after a good soaking! It looks good as new and Maddie was so excited!
My $10 cupboard we are using instead of adding another huge piece of furniture to the girls room!

What fun finds did you get over the weekend? Would love to hear of how God provided for you too! Isn’t He so good to us to give us our wants and needs?

I would love to hear your mold cleaner recipe too 🙂

love your deals! that armoire will look so good refinished in white – can't wait to see. and yay for you on your cupboard too. Can't believe you bartered her down to $10 when she was only asking $15. ;0) Sometimes if it is a really good deal I have a hard time bartering. Like Saturday there was super large milk glass vase. I was fully expecting them to say $5-8 for it. But when the teenager said $2 I just paid and took it 🙂 I don't know, maybe I need to work on that 🙂

My mold cleaner is 2 parts water to 1 part peroxide! It has worked wonders in getting mold off of just about anything! Just let it soak as long as you'd like!

Christina, I don't always barter when prices are so good, but sometimes it depends on time of day and what else I plan to buy at that sale and how much moola I have left! (o: I figured it wouldn't hurt any since I knew it was our last stop and it was almost noon—close up time. But, the worst that could have happened was they say no and I would have still gladly given them my $15!
