My Weekly Treasure Hunt
After a few busy weekends of random events I was unable to get to any yard sales or my normal Goodwill and thrift shopping hits. So, when we took the kiddos to Discovery Place Kids the other day I remembered being told by several that I needed to go up a few more exits and try the Goodwill near Lake Norman.
Yup, I totally took advantage of those tips! My kids were pretty excited to go too since it was one they had never been too either. (Chloe calls the Gastonia Goodwills, “OUR Goodwills.”)
Nonetheless, I was pretty excited and was praying for some fun, frugal finds! The first thing we found were two videos that we had let someone borrow almost a year ago. We have asked for them to be returned, but haven’t had any luck in that arena. So, when Chloe and mommy spotted Dumbo and Lady & the Tramp on the shelf for $.49 each we were pretty happy.
This Goodwill had an entire corner chuck full of frames and pictures. I had a pile I liked, but didn’t want to spend all my money on frames, so I chose my favorite and paid $1.99 for it! I am looking forward to spray painting it and putting it up as part of a soon-to-start project!
They had some pretty sweet small kitchen appliances and such, but I have no use for that right now. There were gorgeous vases, baskets and a bunch of other knickknacks. I put several in my cart and headed toward a small “crowd” of people. There were several gorgeous IKEA area rugs in a stack. I couldn’t believe it! I had no idea what the prices were, but I wasn’t gonna waste time finding out until I found a color that I could use. At the bottom was a gorgeous dark blue 5×7 shag rug! I was ecstatic and snatched it up without looking at the price tag. After getting away from people I glanced down (holding my breath, of course) and saw that the tag read, $7.99!!!! They are currently being sold for $79.99 or more, so pretty sure I found a great deal! I washed it up, vacuumed it and it is currently looking great in our little man’s room.
Right after finding the carpet Andrew spotted a hard plastic pool for $4. I figured since both our big and little pool broke last summer this was a good investment while we are “enjoying” our 90 degree weather.
It is rare for me to find anything for my hubby at Goodwills, but I did find an over $60 Stanley toolbox on wheels for $14.99! That was definitely a keeper especially when I knew what they cost and that he was wanting and needing some more tool space.

where did you get Andrew's bed? the rug looks perfect in there and $7.99 is a great deal for that size. You can't even get a bath mat for $7.99.
LOVE your treasures!! One day, I am coming up there for a few days and we are going to hit every Goodwill within 50 miles, ok??? 🙂 I will have a yard sale and save up all my profits for my spending spree 😉 $.49 for movies?? ours charge I think $2.49? – crazy!!
