Nasty to Tolerated

I don’t have the greatest of pictures of our nasty little deck, but here are a few that didn’t get accidentally deleted! Granted the nasty things needs to be torn down and we are planning on rebuilding a bigger and better one, but for now I had to make this thing somewhat fun to relax on!

So, thanks to a sweet friend over at The Frugal Homemaker I was inspired to do SOMETHING about our nasty little space we call a deck!

I grabbed a few jars of spray paint and went to work. We had purchased a small umbrella/table and chair set about 5 years ago to have something to eat at when we were outside. Eventually I’d love to find some pretty wicker set and a few other things, but not really until this nasty “deck” gets redone in entirety. 5 years is a long time for a set of chairs and an umbrella and the umbrella was hideously faded, stained, and just plain nasty. My handy dandy best friend came into use there—-spray paint! I really wanted to go a different color other than the normal reds, browns, and you know—all the colors in my house. So, Chloe Belle helped me pick a pretty blue and we were able to find some wild and fun scraps of material to create some diy pillows to add a pop of color.

I was pretty excited to see how the umbrella turned out. I’d still like to do another coat, but my energy ran out.

Notice the cute milk glass bowl we planted flowers in? I got that for free from a friend who is moving! Sad, but now there is something cheery to constantly remind us of her when they move. misc 786 Remember that cute children’s bench I found at a yard sale a few weekends ago? Well, I finally painted the iron part to it and fixed it up a bit. We still have to paint the wood, but come one, one day at a time! (o: Chloe wanted to pose sitting in it under our quickly thrown together wreath, potted flowers, and spray painted barrel. The kids love their little spot on the deck now!

Then came the funnest part—pillows from bright colored scraps! Chloe thought these were so much fun to make and it didn’t take us long at all! I think they add to the comfy feel too.

The plant stand was something else i got from the friend that is moving. We spray painted it, added a potted lavender plant to the bottom, and our tin drink cooler to the top. When my kids play outside they are continually asking for a drink, so I figured this would be fun to fill each time and they won’t have to drag all that mud and grass in the house to quench their thirst!

Well, there you go, friends—if you forget to notice the holes in the deck, the spray painted boards, and just random nastiness of our deck, maybe now it is a bit more appealing. I am looking forward to many days in the pool this summer and a cool lemonade or picnic lunch in these chairs.

If you wanna break, come on over—we will have lots of fun!
